La La Land was the big Oscar Awards 2017 Live Stream winner at this year's Baftas, which were attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Triumphing in five of the 11 categories it was nominated in, Damien Chazelle's giddy, LA-set musical continues to hop and pirouette towards Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards, which are in a fortnight's time.
Emma Stone, who stars opposite Ryan Gosling in La La Land, took home Leading Actress, while Casey Affleck won Leading Actor for his work in the emotionally gruelling drama Manchester By the Sea.
Elsewhere, there was a surprise victory for Dev Patel, who, despite being the star of Lion, was only nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while Kevin Loach won Outstanding British Film, for I, Daniel Blake.
Accepting his award, the veteran director said:
Thank you to the academy for endorsing the truths of what the film says, which hundreds and thousands of people in this country know, the most vulnerable and poorest are treated by the Government with a callous brutality that is disgraceful, a brutality that extends to keeping out refugee children we promised to help and that's a disgrace too."
The only conspicuous Oscar Awards 2017 Live Stream shut-out on the night was for Moonlight, about a black, gay child growing up in Miami. In his five-star review of the film, Tim Robey called it "a nuclear-fission-strength heartbreaker". It was nominated for four awards, including Best Film and Best Original Screenplay.
Mel Brooks was awarded the Bafta Fellowship.
It was all fairly predictable, let's be honest. La La Land looks set to sweep the Oscars in a fortnight's time, and we can expect there to be wins, too, for Viola Davis and Casey Affleck. Dev Patel provided the night's only surprise victory. Speaking of which, did anyone see that Burberry's social media person mistook Patel for Riz Ahmed? In the words of Will Smith in Independence Day, "Oops.
Calling Brooks "an extremely talented actor, comedian, filmmaker, composer and song-writer", Prince William swiftly hands over to Nathan Lane and Simon Pegg, who don't hold back. "He's a comedy genius who raised flatulence to an art form," says the latter. Then there are some jokes about Hitler ("That's the thing about Hitler - they never tell you about the good stuff") and everyone looks a bit awkward.
I want to thank Harvey Weinstein for having nothing to do with this award tonight," says Brooks in reply, before apologising to Prince William for the American revolution.
"To choose an American is mighty nice of you, mighty nice," he says. "By the way, the reason I forgot my passport is because I don't think of England seriously. I don't think of this place as a foreign country. I just think of it as a vast Brooklyn that just speaks better. That's all.
Accepting her award, the magnificent Emma Stone says: "This country - and the US, and the world - seems to be going through a bit of a time, just a bit". She added: "In a time that's so divisive I think it's so special we were able to come together tonight thanks to Bafta, to celebrate the positive gift of creativity and how it can transcend borders and how it can help people to feel a little less alone."
She then forgets to actually take the Bafta with her
This is an incredible honour," he Oscar Awards 2017 Live says. Look, I know La La Land has its detractors, but I think it's a joyous piece of film-making. Anyone not reduced to hot, gulping sobs by the film's extraordinary ending should consult their local GP immediately.
Introducing the Best Director category, Rylance says: "So many stories of society that I took for granted are being challenged. Stories that I learned from my parents and my grandparents, such as 'be kind to strangers'."
Stephen Fry has kept the Trump gags going. Although there have been no direct mentions of the President or long rants about him, there have been some wry nudges towards the controversial politician.
Emma Stone is pictured here laughing about a joke Fry made about how the actors will accept the results of the Baftas, even if they don't like the result.

He pointed out a certain someone didn't accept the result of an independent judiciary - drawing attention to the Muslim ban - and that this person tried to get a new judge to get the result he wanted.
Well done, Tim, you were right.
"My heart is beating - what an exciting moment," says Affleck, after accepting the Oscar Awards Live Stream award from a less-than-enthused Penelope Cruz. "These clips that we see of the actors are always moments of heightened emotion, and that's so often celebrated. I think it's because they're the hardest moments to understand in our lives.

The reason I act is because when I was a young kid my mother would take me out on meetings for the children of alcoholics. There were lots of kids there who would act out the feelings of people they were trying to understand. It was therapy, but it was also acting, and that's why I've acted ever since.
If I had an ounce of the talent that the cellist we've just seen - or the acrobats - have, I'd be doing that instead.

Accepting the award from Thandie Newton, he pours praise on the film's star Casey Affleck, whom he says gives "one of the most brilliant performances I've ever seen - or think I will" in a film about "looking grief and sorrow in the face".
Outstanding British Contribution to Film goes to Curzon.Elle star Isabelle Huppert, presenting the award, described it as "an organisation so very close to my heart".
As a champion of independent cinema, Curzon hold a unique place, not only in our industry but in our affections - not least my own, having been lucky enough to have appeared in six films under their banner," she says.
The head of Curzon, meanwhile, laments Brexit - no surprises there, really.

Oh god, it's the In Memoriam segment. And it's playing out to the plaintive strains of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah - performed here on the cello. Bear with me a sec. OK, I've pulled myself together.
Gene Wilder, Debbie Reynolds Oscar Awards Live Carrie Fisher, Anton Yelchin, John Hurt all get their dues. "The people you love become ghosts inside you," says Fry in the aftermath. It's beautifully done. Damn you, 2016.
Wow, that just happened," he says, sounding genuinely incredulous. "I sit and watch this at home with my family, who are here with me tonight. Mum, dad... This is a film about family, about a love that transcends borders, colour, everything. You guys are my driving force.

He praises the film's directors and producers for helping "to get this Indian dude... with wonky teeth and floppy hair to work in this industry.
Whoops! And there goes that bigger surprise I didn’t expect – although to be fair, if I had expected it, it wouldn't have been a surprise.
Dev Patel’s victory in Best Supporting Actor for his work in Lion is a shocker for two reasons: firstly, he’s arguably the lead in that film (and is tremendous in it) and secondly, Mahershala Ali was the firm favourite for playing drug dealer Juan in Moonlight.
Ali was certainly the critical favourite in the category, but Patel’s complex emotional journey in the film, coupled with serious newly minted leading-man magnetism – praised earlier this evening on the red carpet by no less than his co-star Nicole Kidman – obviously Oscar Awards 2017 Live Stream struck a chord with the Bafta membership. (Perhaps being British helped a bit too.) The result means Barry Jenkins’s exquisite Moonlight may now leave this year's ceremony empty-handed, which would be a truly shabby outcome in a year where voters have otherwise magnanimously spread the love.[source]
